Dear Colleagues, with great pleasure I present to you the 1st National Course of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery on- line that follows the Live Surgery Course that took place in Florence on 16th-17th December 2011. Bariatric surgery is living a moment of worldwide great importance with a constant growth in interest from public opinion and from many surgeons that have never been occupied of this problem. The course is primarily directed to the latter because the interest of the experts is not in doubt. The course aims to be a tool for consultation and growth for experienced surgeons and a tool for knowledge for not insiders. It’s practically like a remote training, like an on-line journal of bariatric live surgery. There are strictly “complete” procedures, from skin to skin, that is to say that the videos has not been anyhow cut or edited. That’s the aim of this on-line course: to be able to follow from anywhere a remote operation like you are physically in the operating room, and moreover to compare notes with the surgeons through the special section. In this course we included bariatric and metabolic surgery operations performed during the above-mentioned Live Surgery Course and others judged of didactic relevance. The most qualified operations nowadays, from basics to more complex reoperations, have been approached. The surgeons registered to the previous Live Surgery Course in Florence will have free access to the on-line course for 2011 and 2012. All the others could take out the subscription contacting the secretariat, as you do for any scientific journal. The Live Surgery Course in Florence will take place every two years; the next will be on December 2012 with many connection to eminent surgical bases. After that event, all the videos that actually can be consulted, will be transferred to an also available archive and will be inserted the new videos. Good job to everyone Marcello Lucchese S.I.C.OB.
